“Say Hello” is a short promo designed to attract young professionals and recent college grads to New York’s upstate Capital Region. It’s all about lifestyle, opportunity and location – the “hat trick” of good living. The 3 1/2-minute piece was filmed in 12 different locations over the course of three days using a SteadiCam® camera mount. All the action was shot “on the move” as we shadowed actor/choreographer Freddie Ramirez on an energetic walking tour of popular Tech Valley locations and landmarks.
The project started with a lot of preproduction planning and careful message development. Our clients, a partnership of the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber and the Chamber of Schenectady County, knew what they wanted. It was our challenge to give it to them… and more.
Once we had script approval, it was time to come up with the perfect locations and the right talent. The minute we saw Freddie’s test read we knew we had the right guy. Next, an ambitious schedule and strategy were crafted that allowed us to maximize our time and minimize travel – two very important objectives when it comes to staying within budget.
Then there was the blocking. When done right, SteadiCam® offers many advantages, not the least of which is the ability to make dynamic movement a key feature of the program. Every scene in every location had to be mapped and designed for movement, camera position, availability of natural light and pacing. Number of steps, speed of delivery, running room for the camera – all had to be factored into the shot. But when it works and all comes together, you get the one result that you can only get with a SteadiCam® – seamless action.
“Say Hello” is being distributed through several channels to promote Tech Valley initiatives. It’s a recruitment tool for businesses and colleges, a lifestyle overview for realtors and developers, a tool to promote tourism and a solid vehicle to drive some serious social media buzz.
“Say Hello to Our New York” was a great opportunity to put all of our video production services and experience to the test. We hope it’s just the beginning of a whole new product line in our communications portfolio!
